I would suggest the cats eye taillamp or similarly mounted unit....i have not done this on a savage but i did a similar conversion on a honda rebel....the taillamp will come with a window for license illumination so remove the old license light....and finsd away to mouint it under there...i purchased a chrome license plate with catseye mount from a harley catalog and ided that to mount the license under the new taillamp....you can visit my site by clicking the link below and from there check out the rear of the rebel....not to difficult of a job i think i had to drill like 2 holes and that was it.
